EFAA’s Strategic Education efforts help raise awareness and advocate for systemic change on the broader issues facing the most vulnerable in our community. To advance this important work, EFAA is pleased to have brought on Ana Fernandez Frank as our full-time Public Policy and Outreach Coordinator.

What brought you to work for EFAA?

Ever since I moved to Colorado five years ago, I have volunteered with EFAA in many different capacities. I started volunteering in the food bank, moved into intake, and then helped start the Participant Advisory Council (PAC) when EFAA became a Family Resource Center in 2016. I am very passionate about EFAA’s mission, so when I learned that EFAA created this new position, I jumped at the opportunity. It is exactly what I was looking for!

What do EFAA’s Strategic Education efforts aim to achieve?

It is all about raising awareness and educating people, so that they feel moved to take action to address the issues our participants are facing: family homeless, child poverty, food and housing insecurity, and income and wages. We also want to elevate participant’s voices in the public policy discussions so their lived experience informs policy makers and local leaders.

What excites you most about this new position?

On the Public Policy side, I’m excited to bring volunteers and participants together to affect real change, since there are not a lot of spaces for these individuals to come together. On the Community Outreach side, I’m excited to connect with community groups and other organizations in Boulder in an intentional way to leverage resources. There are so many great people in Boulder doing amazing work, and it gets even better when we join forces to better serve our participants.

Tell us something about yourself that people may not know about you.

I’m from Argentina, I love horses, and my maternal grandparents were German Jews who met in Buenos Aires after they escaped the Holocaust.
