Since 1979 EFAA has operated shelters for families in our community. In 2010, we sheltered 388 individuals, representing 121 households, including 193 children.
For families living in Boulder and Broomfield Counties, Emergency shelters provide up to 12 weeks of housing and services that support a family. The goal is to provide the short-term support a family needs to then get re-established into affordable permanent housing. We have 21 emergency units throughout our community.
For families who need more than 12 weeks of emergency shelter, EFAA offers a Transitional housing program through 22 units located primarily in Boulder and Lafayette. Families in transitional housing can remain for up to 2 years and are required to actively pursue goals to achieve self-sufficiency. Costs for our Shelter program are kept to a minimum by utilizing volunteers. We provide additional support to children in order to minimize the disruption associated with homelessness. A specialized children's caseworker, working in conjunction with volunteers, directs our Children’s Program. Emergency shelters include: 7 units in Boulder, 4 in Lafayette, 10 in Longmont Transitional housing includes: 14 in Boulder, 7 in Lafayette, 1 in Longmont To qualify for Shelter services, first call 303-442-3042 to make an appointment with a caseworker.
